Things to do

A self-catering holiday in Jersey is an opportunity to sample the amazing richness of the activities our small island has to offer.

Jersey is well suited to family self-catering holidays, with a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities to delight children of all ages and their parents.

Aside from the miles of varied and beautiful beaches, Jersey offers many choices of family entertainment.

hougue.jpgThe Jersey Heritage Trust manages a fabulous network of heritage sites, including the iconic Mont Orgueil castle, Elizabeth Castle which dominates the bay off St Helier, the Jersey Museum and Jersey Maritime Museum, both of which have won awards for excellence and are brilliantly geared towards younger visitors, the fascinating country life museum at Hamptonne, and the extraordinary neolithic burial chamber and associated museum at La Hougue Bie.

For sports lovers, the fantastic facilities at Les Ormes Leisure Village will provide plenty of great opportunities, with golf, tennis, indoor soccer and indoor pool and gym all on one site.

If the Nazi occupation of Jersey is of interest, there are many bunkers and military installations left by the occupying forces after Jersey's liberation on 9 May 1945. But the jewel in the crown is the Jersey War Tunnels site, an incredible network of tunnels built by slave workers for the German forces into the side of a sheltered verdant valley. The tunnels are now home to a range of displays and depictions of life in occupied Jersey. A highly recommended visit.

gokart.jpgIf the outdoor family fun is what you're after, the excellent facilities at Amaizin! will provide what you're looking for. With go-karts, tractor rides, petting farm, crazy golf, huge climbing frames, the towering toboggan and, in summer, a huge maize maze, this award-winning fun park will leave you with great memories.

ayeaye.jpgLast, but most definitely not least, you should not leave Jersey without visiting Durrell, the world famous wildlife preservation centre founded by the late author and naturalist Gerald Durrell. This astonishing place, which is home to groups of endangered species from all over the world, has been responsible for some of the most important captive breeding programmes for highly endangered animals, and exports its knowledge and expertise worldwide. The centre is set in beautiful parkland in the heart of Jersey's lush countryside and merits a commitment of at least half a day to do it justice.
